Overview
The Zoom F6 packs six XLR/TRS inputs, 32-bit float recording and dual A/D converters into a compact body that rides comfortably in a sound bag or on a camera cage. Because every input is captured in 32-bit float, a shouted line or a whispered one can be brought to level in post without clipping or added noise — so you can stop riding gain on every take and focus on mic placement.
Up to 14 tracks record at once (each of the six inputs in both 32-bit float and 24-bit, plus a stereo mix), and Zoom’s AutoMix lowers unused mics automatically on multi-speaker scenes. A 0.2 ppm timecode generator keeps sound locked to camera across a full day, and the F6 runs on AA batteries, a Sony L-series (NP-F) battery or USB-C power.

The F6 and F3 share Zoom’s 32-bit float recording and the same low-noise preamps, so both are ready for professional work. The F6 steps up with six inputs, 14 simultaneous tracks, AutoMix and a built-in timecode generator — the recorder to reach for when there are more voices to capture and more cameras to sync.

Best for
Choose the Zoom F6 for
- Multi-person interviews, panels and round tables — up to six mics, with AutoMix keeping them clean
- Narrative dialogue with a boom plus several wireless lavs on separate tracks
- Timecode-synced multicam shoots, with a built-in generator that holds sync all day
- Long days on location, powered by an NP-F battery or USB-C
Choose the Zoom F3 for
- Single-operator and run-and-gun shoots with one boom and one lav
- Cage- or camera-mounted recording, where size and weight matter
- Stereo ambience, sound effects and Foley with a matched pair of mics
- Lean kits and tight budgets, with the same 32-bit float quality
- Leave each channel in 32-bit float with a conservative trim — levels can be normalised later, so spend your time on mic placement.
- Jam timecode from camera or a sync box at call, then re-check it after every battery change.
- Format the included SD card in the F6 before the first take and back up the card at every meal break.
- An NP-F battery runs far longer than a set of AAs — add a battery kit for long shoot days and set the battery type in the menu.
