Overview

The RØDELink Newsshooter Wireless TX/RX Kit is a digital 2.4 GHz plug-on wireless system designed to adapt standard XLR microphones. The TX-XLR transmitter provides switchable 48 V phantom power and up to 40 dB of gain, allowing direct integration with condenser shotguns or handheld interview mics, while the RX-CAM receiver outputs via 3.5 mm to camera or recorder inputs. The system operates using Series II 2.4 GHz transmission with frequency hopping and 128-bit encryption, maintaining signal integrity in congested RF environments and enabling license-free operation across regions. With ~4 ms latency, 24-bit / 44.1 kHz transmission, ~112 dB dynamic range, and diversity signal management, it serves as a compact solution for wireless boom or handheld deployment where traditional UHF systems are not required.

Both kits use the same RØDELink Series II 2.4 GHz system and the same camera-mounted RX-CAM receiver. The Newsshooter Kit swaps in a plug-on TX-XLR transmitter with switchable 48 V phantom power, turning almost any XLR mic — a shotgun on a boom, a handheld for interviews, or a Micbooster Clippy worn as a lav — into a wireless source.

Best for

  • Interviews and dialogue with a hidden lav on talent
  • Presenters, walk-and-talks and vlogs, where the speaker is on the move
  • Camera-mounted setups, with the receiver feeding straight into camera
  • Light, simple kits for a single speaker
  • Wireless booming — a shotgun on a pole with no cable back to camera or recorder
  • Handheld interview mics for vox pops, events and red-carpet work
  • Wireless actor lavs, using an XLR lav such as the Micbooster Clippy XLR
  • Any microphone that needs 48 V phantom power
  • Confirm whether the connected XLR microphone needs phantom power before enabling it on the TX-XLR.
  • Keep transmitter and receiver in line of sight and move them away from Wi-Fi access points when interference appears.
  • Use the headphone output on the transmitter for a local check, then monitor again at the receiving recorder or camera.
  • Pair the system before mounting, secure the receiver output cable, and perform a walk test through the real blocking path.
