Overview
The RØDE Blimp (second generation) is a full windshield and suspension assembly for shotgun microphones, combining a rigid acoustic basket with a Rycote® Lyre mount to isolate the mic from handling vibration and cable-borne noise. The enclosure reduces wind-induced turbulence across the capsule, with performance extending to high-wind conditions when paired with a fur cover. Internal Mogami cabling is integrated to minimize movement noise and maintain signal integrity along the boom. The system mounts via standard 3/8" thread and supports shotgun microphones up to ~325mm in length, providing consistent off-axis rejection and low-frequency stability during boom operation.

Best for
Choose the RØDE Blimp for
- Long boom days, where a Lyre suspension stays consistent take after take
- Dialogue scenes where handling noise has to stay out of the track
- Productions that want their audio gear travelling in a protective case
- Longer shotgun mics, up to about 325 mm
Choose the Movo BWS1000 for
- Windy exteriors, with the deadcat already in the kit
- Handheld booming and run-and-gun work from the pistol grip
- Mounting on boom poles or stands with 3/8" or 1/4" threads
- Pairing with the Sennheiser MKE 600, which it fits
- Centre the microphone so its capsule sits inside the basket with clearance from every surface.
- Use the bare basket for moderate wind and add the fur cover for stronger air, brushing fibres away from the front.
- Create a quiet cable loop at the rear and secure the exterior XLR so it cannot strike the boom pole.
- Listen while rotating and booming before the take; loose end caps, cable contact, or mis-seated Lyres are easier to fix in prep.
