Overview

The Movo BWS1000 encloses a shotgun microphone in an acoustically open blimp, suspended on a 12-point shockmount — three rings, each with four suspension bands — that isolates the capsule from boom and handling vibration. An internal XLR cable keeps the signal path tidy and quiet inside the basket.

For exteriors, the included furry “deadcat” slips over the blimp and cuts wind noise by up to 40 dB. Operate it handheld from the rubberised pistol grip, or mount it to a boom pole or stand through its 3/8" and 1/4" threads. It fits shotgun microphones up to 320 mm long, including the Sennheiser MKE 600.

Best for

Choose the RØDE Blimp for

  • Long boom days, where a Lyre suspension stays consistent take after take
  • Dialogue scenes where handling noise has to stay out of the track
  • Productions that want their audio gear travelling in a protective case
  • Longer shotgun mics, up to about 325 mm

Choose the Movo BWS1000 for

  • Windy exteriors, with the deadcat already in the kit
  • Handheld booming and run-and-gun work from the pistol grip
  • Mounting on boom poles or stands with 3/8" or 1/4" threads
  • Pairing with the Sennheiser MKE 600, which it fits
  • Centre the microphone in the shockmount so its capsule sits mid-basket and the body never touches the rings or the blimp walls.
  • Dress the internal XLR cable with a little slack so vibration doesn’t travel down it to the mic.
  • Fit the deadcat for exteriors and drafty locations; indoors the bare blimp keeps the top end slightly brighter.
  • Brush the deadcat out after use and let it dry fully before packing it away.
